Situation

An Indian fixed-line telecom operator needed help in developing a corporate dashboard and a planning model ahead of its Initial Public Offering.

Approach

We worked in Mumbai with the top client directors and the Telecoms and SAP consultants, as part of a business performance management programme. We designed the corporate performance dashboard and metrics (e.g. ARPU/AMPU, Network Coverage / Capex, dealer satisfaction), defined the process for corporate planning and business performance management, and specified the requirements for the implementation in SAP of the corporate performance reporting tool. We produced a report for the Working Leadership Council, the corporate office and the Strategic Business Unit (SBU) planners. This aimed at helping them to monitor and manage the actual performance and trends, and the variances between plan and actual. In addition, the consulting team produced a series of Excel-based financial planning models, covering the SBUs for wireless, data and national and international long distance (NLD, ILD). These considered revenues and costs, customer acquisition, transfer pricing aggregations, shared services, corporate accounting, and India and US GAAP requirements.

Results

The corporate dashboard was successfully presented and well received by client’s directors.
